Class I Guidelines

  1. Diabetes management should include lifestyle and pharmacotherapy measures to achieve a near-normal HbA1c level of <7%. (Level of Evidence: B) [1] [2] Diabetes management should also include the following:
a. Vigorous modification of other risk factors (e.g., physical activity, weight management, blood pressure control, and cholesterol management) as recommended should be initiated and maintained. (Level of Evidence: B) [1] [2]
b. It is useful to coordinate the patient’s diabetic care with the patient’s primary care physician or endocrinologist. (Level of Evidence: C) [1] [2]
